I was looking online for potential new phones from Cingular and I came across this Video Review some guy did of the Cingular 8125 (HTC Wizard). Looks like a cool phone, but for $300?!?! I don't know, I may have to wait... I could buy a XBOX 360 with $300... Well, if I wanted a XBOX 360... lol... I just bought a used XBOX and i'm going through the games...

You should know by now that I'm a Playstation fanatic... I read some news today about some leaked info that the PS3 is costing Sony about $900 (U.S.) to make and that the new possible price point is going to be $699?!?!?! WTF!??!

I'll buy a MacMini at that price. Geez... The PS3 better be a computer or that dreaded media center convergence unit crap that 'we' are supposing to be going towards... lol

Me and Rick will be talking about this on the next sone... And yes I know we haven't recorded anything in a few weeks... Sorry bout that... lol

The build for the studio has taken more time and money than we expected (go figure).

I'm going to try to do a show monday morning.

Me and Rick went to go see Shinedown and Seether about a week ago. What an awesome show it was! Shinedown rules!!!

I'll be dragging Rick (kicking and screaming) to see The Starlight Mints show February 27th. They are alot different than Shinedown and Seether, but if you like the flaming lips, you'll like them.

I got a pool table that I'll be setting up after the studio is done. It has a ping pong and a poker attachment with it. Can't wait to beat Rick's ass in well... everything...

Yes, I know we haven't posted anything here in a while... Why??? Well... to be honest Me and Rick have been busy building the studio. We are almost halfway done. Hopefully we will be done by the end of January. I will try to post some of the pictures when we are done.

So far we've ripped out the insulation and sheet rock. Re-installed insulation and sheet rock. This week we finish mudding the walls and paint and hopefully build a set for future video! ;-) Still need the video camera... lol... It's gonna be really cool. It's not been a good week, people...

I apologize for not posting for over a week, but things have been crazy for me. I won't go into detail but "life" has been insane. Sometimes you have to just throw your hands up in the air and say "WTF is going on!" Life is weird like that you know?!?!?

I know, episode 16 isn't up yet. I'm going to have something for you up by Wednesday Night, I promise. It will just be me and I'm thinking about doing a what I'm thankful for in Technology in 2005 type of segment. Plus your top 5 to 10 sites.

Hopefully, later this week Me and Rick can get back to some type of "normalcy". Expect the next "real" show (Episode 17) with the both of us on Sunday the 27th (tentatively). That's if Rick is not passed out in a ditch. LOL. It's a joke... Get it over it...

Episode 16 is up, so go download it now! I also changed the website up a bit, so 56K people can join in on the fun... You might need to hit that little refresh button or 'F5' for you keyboard shortcut fanatics...If that's possible... Can you have fun on a 56K modem? I remember back in the 1200 baud days chatting to someone who claimed to be a girl on prodigy on a BBS. Man, those were the days... lol

The sound quality should be alot better this time around... Bought a new mixing board and two nice MXL mics. Cross your fingers.

Sorry about the lousy audio quality on Episode 15!

I will re-edit (for the second time, yes it was worse) the audio later today. The problem is we are going through a growing phase and are upgrading equipment. This was our first week using a new mixing board and Rick's microphone was a loud on the recording, but in our 'soundcheck' was normal. We don't have a sound engineer yet to run things so I can focus on just talking, so I have to do both at the same time which can be distracting. Episode 16 "should" sound the best, our new mics and filters are coming in later this week. :-)

And before you e-mail, the reason I can't do it right this second is because... Well I can't say exactly... Note the day of the week and time... Put 2 and 2 together... ;-)

I just talked with the masked gamer, he's not feelin the love at askstupidquestions.com, so he may have to come up with a different show. I'm still working on adding 2 more shows... Contracts, legality, blah, blah, blah...

So bare with me, I'm trying to keep the ship a-float.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Podcast?

I liked the title, so I had to go with it. Is it me or is there too many podcasts on the net now? Over-saturation of everything. There's podcasts about religion, anti-religion, sex, more sex, sex with animals... ok maybe not, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a podcast.

How many podcasts are there right now? Loomia.com says tens of thousands. PodcastAlley lists 9,476 as of this post. Podnova lists 13,133 right now. Steve Jobs recently said around 8,000. I do know that we are consistantly in the top 5-10% of the podcasts in the world. I am very thankful for that. I started geekcasting.com as a hobby and it still is, but I did it because I missed having a radio show like I used to about 5 year ago.

Here's the 4 problems I think need to be fixed are:

1. ITunes Top 100 need to be fixed.

Podcasts like ours will most likely never make the Top 100. Plus now there is Video mixed in with Podcasts now...Why not make a Top 20 or Top 50 like Billboard for each category... (Tech, Celebrity, Newscasts, Sportscasts, Comedy, etc...

Instead of calculating votes by using subscription by click, calculate those same votes by using subscription by click and using the IP address as the vote and not the actual click.

2. I hate fads or crazes...

The popularity of podcasts has created a Hollywood buzz and now every celebrity, tv and radio station is whoring themselves out to get their name out and to be cool. A Podcast as defined by Wikipedia is: "a portmanteau of Apple's "iPod" and "broadcasting", is a method of publishing files to the Internet, allowing users to subscribe to a feed and receive new files automatically by subscription, usually at no cost." It's a podcasts people, not a cheap way to put yourself over and how freaking cool you are and podcasts are definately NOT clips of popular broadcasting shows. Not like we don't hear, see, or want to stab them enough as it is. If you want to be cool, offer your whole show, instead of a trailer of an episode. We all know they'll never do that. That is another topic I'll cover in another post. $1.99 for an episode of Lost on a tiny screen... I think I'll pass. Drop the price to $.99 cents and we'll talk...

3. If you read this and you do a podcast and your audio quality is awful, please find the nearest bridge and jump.

Okay, i'm just kidding, but really folks, podcasting is not that hard. Spend a little more money and go get a $50 microphone from Musician's Friend, instead of that $5 Walmart special you pickup that's being held together by duct tape. Also download Audacity or something like it. You can remove the background, clean the hiss/hum and it will be better the tin-can sound that we all can't stand. With that said, yes we have had 2 or 3 shows that haven't sounded that greatest but they were not bad by any means. Doing location shows are a totally different beast all together and after this week, we should have an awesome mobile kit for when we are elsewhere.

4. Find something to talk about...

I'm not going to complain about this one much, because you know what they say, different strokes for different folks... What I like, you may not, simply put. My shows, Tech News Weekly has gone about 3 different changes. We recently stripped everything out, with the exception of the Top 10 New Cool Sites of the Week and the Top 10 Tech News Stories... Is this ground breaking??? No... Are we uncovering anything??? No... What we do (hopefully) is entertain you and possibly educate you about what is going on in the world of technology.

The geekcasting.com main page is down. I went to my webhost (powweb) page and here is what they say...

"We believe the problem is either hardware or an OS problem with the Network Appliance file server. After contacting NetApp again today they will be sending a rep to our data center to diagnose the problem and either fix/replace the file server which should fix the problem once and for all. Thank you for your patience and sorry for any inconvenience."

We've been down since 6:30pm Friday, and they still haven't fixed this... hmmmm. makes me wonder if I should have gone elsewhere for webhosting...

Well, I had to do it.

I said I'd never put ads on my site. Well, I was wrong, sort of.
The main page http://www.geekcasting.com will still have no ads... As of now... I'd like to do vidcast or IPTV, therefore I need revenue to buy a 3 ccd video camera, studio setup, etc... Lights, Camera, Gadgets was meant to be a vidcast but until the funds are reached, it will be a podcast.

Lights, Camera, Gadgets is going to be a tech/gadgets/gaming comedy type show. Sort of like Martin Sargeant's old show on tech TV but different. LOL

So, if you want to see my visions realized! LOL. Click the ads, Donate some money on the main page, or donate a kidney for cash. Whatever works for you...

We will no longer be using cafepress as our store. The links will still be active until I change things. The cafepress system stinks. It's difficult and time consuming. They're expensive. We are going to temporarily shut down the store while we build our own. We should be able to offer lower prices and higher quality. We are no looking to make money from this, but what profit we do make goes towards upgrades.

I think the new store can be ready mid-october (or so).

CD Reviews...

Alright, this is just my opinion on some music that I got recently.

First off, I'd like to say that my choice of music is very strange. I listen by mood. You can always tell what kind of mood i'm in by the music I'm listening to.

Review #1: Biohazard - Means to an End (Genre: Heavy Metal/Rap Metal)

I have every album ( 9 in total) by Biohazard and have been to a couple of their concerts, so I'd like to consider myself a Biohazard fan.

I love listening to Biohazard when I need some raw energy (for workouts) or when I'm really upset off and want to start beating people. I have issues. I know.

So what do I think of that new album? I love it!!!
I'll be honest and say that the last 2 albums (Kill or be Killed and Uncivilization) was lacking in the creativity department and sounded bland.

They now sound re-energized and ready to rule the world! They are at their best when they are negative. Who isn't at their best when they are about to have a seizure???

The Biohazard website is very interactive, so if you are bored go check that out.

I definitely recommend the album, if you love heavy metal.

Review #2: Rob Dickinson - Fresh Wine for the Horses

Rob Dickinson, was the lead singer of the now disbanded band, The Catherine Wheel. Back in the 90's The Catherine Wheel were one of my Top 5 favorite bands.

Rob loves women and fame. The Catherine Wheel really never gave him that with the exception of one minor hit called "On my Way Down". The band never officially stated why they broke up, but rumors from the grapevine said it was because Rob was unhappy not being famous.

So, how's the new album, you ask? Well if you're a diehard Catherine Wheel fan you know that in the early 90's they were pretty edgy but 2000 they were somewhat mellow, but still had some kick. Well, this album continues the trend, but more mellower with a splash of edginess. The Anthem track on the album is called "My name is Love"... Rob is now a Love song singer. Which he did some of that in the Catherine Wheel, but not to this extent.

Rob definitely spent time with lyrics, this is his best work lyrically ever. I don't mind the love songs as long as they are good. And wow they are... I wish I could only write half as good lyrically as he does.

It is really hard to compare the Catherine Wheel or Rob Dickinson to a particular group of today. Maybe a slightly edgier version of Coldplay (sort of). You can listen to "My name is Love" on his website. http://www.robdickinson.com/

Listen before you buy, I like it, but I'm different.

Did you here that the number #4 internet browser, Opera is offering a free version of their product without ads? Does anyone use Opera anymore? Does anyone care? I guess this is a smart move considering most everyone has forgotten who they are?!
Another browser will be coming your way... Flock... Yes, and I ran I ran so far away... (Only 2 people got that joke). It is in Alpha/Beta Testing mode, so it will be a little while until we see the final product. I usually don't test things unless i'm getting paid for it or I want to test it. So because I'm not going to test it, if anyone that is testing Flock wants to send us some screenshots/info, we'd be happy to post it.

So am I the part of growing trend that is no longer paying for cable? I am watching everything on my computer. I know, i'm a true geek, but I'm more of a tight wad ask anyone that knows me. $50 for basic cable? c'mon! but if you pay for the ultra-tier package where you get 500 channels, internet, and VoIP you only have to pay $100! Excuse me, did you just say $100?!?!?
No thanks... Skype is free, IPTV is free, and I only pay $35 for internet. works for me... Is anyone like me that just thinks that entertainment aka movies, cable, internet is overpriced?

fyi... for you digital music fanatics out there. Line 6 just released the Toneport. Plug in 2 mics and 2 guitars through usb! A studio for your laptop. Man I want one, then I can ditch all this analog stuff i'm using! Add a Brian Moore midi guitar with FL Studio and man! woooo smokin!
